10th edition of the „Responsible Business in Poland. Good Practices” Report – Press release

Responsible Business Forum has published “Responsible Business in Poland 2011. Good Practices” Report – it is the 10th edition of this unique document, which summarizes companies’ involvement in execution of responsible business principles and is an overview of other initiatives in this area.

In the 10th edition of the publication new division of areas has been applied, according to those used in the ISO 26000 norm. From over 300 good practices sent, 209 have been chosen in the following areas: organizational governance (18 practices), human rights (5), employee practices/aspects (66), the environment (37), fair operating practices (8), consumer issues (4), and local community involvement and development (71).

The Report contains also 17 articles written by Polish and foreign experts, that tackle the most important topic from last year and show trends for 2012, i.a.: social protests, consumer boycotts in the Internet, Rio+20 Conference, social actions in the context of Euro 2012. Publication contains also a review of research, press articles and most important events.

New form that we have launched this year shows not only individual practices, but also trends and ways of CSR development in Poland – said Mirella Panek-Owsiańska, Responsible Business Forum Chairperson. – Rising number of the practices each year shows us that the concept of CSR is doing well and it will be developing.

In the employee practices area the most numerous category was safety in the workplace. 20 practices are tackling these issues: safe driving, engaging employees in the safety at work assessment, contests that help memorize knowledge on procedures. Many practices regard corporate volunteering, due to the European Year of Volunteering 2011.

The environmental area consists mainly of practices regarding environmental education (21 practices): from ecological education in the workplace to educating children and local community.

Every year, the most numerous area is local community involvement and development. Interesting trend that was noted this year was cooperation between business and higher education units – 13 examples were presented in this area.

Not very numerous (4 examples), but innovative was consumer issues area. Grupa TP has created NN Assistant – a special application for blind and older people that helps using a mobile phone. PGNiG has organized workshops for its employees regarding serving clients with disabilities.

The Report was launched on March 29th, during CSR Marketplace organized by the Responsible Business Forum for the fourth time. During the ceremony, winners of the contest for journalists writing about CSR have been announced.
