The Amazon Day

The Amazon Day at the International Conference on Sustainable Development is an innovative initiative to engage people around the Amazon basin countries to promote sustainable development through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

This initiative is led by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network for theAmazonia (SDSN-Amazonia) and supported by the UN Sustainable Development SolutionsNetwork (UN-SDSN). The main objective is connect countries to foster discussion on implementation of the SDGs at low cost, low carbon footprint and open and free access, making feasible the broad involvement of the public and a wider exchange of experiences.

Goals

  1. To increase awareness and engagement to the implementation of the SDGs in theAmazon basin;
  2. To mobilize a collaborative and dynamic exchanging of experiences, lessons learned, and synergies for the implementation of the SDGs in the Amazon region;
  3. To foster a sectoral roadmap for the SDGs implementation in the Amazon region.

Hubs

The Amazon Day will be hosted in local hubs, which will be organized by SDSN-Amazonia local partners. The hubs confirmed are:· Manaus / Brazil (FAS and Federal University of Amazonas – UFAM),  Bogotá / Colombia (CEID) 3· San José del Guaviare / Colombia (SINCHI)· Iquitos / Peru (IIAP), New York / USA (Columbia University), Rio de Janeiro / Brazil (Conservation International).
